5 Unique Experiences That Only the Nature of Terceira (You) Can Offer - Azores Lovers

5 Unique Experiences that only Terceira Nature Can Offer (you)

TAKE A SELFIE INSIDE A VOLCANO

In Algar do Carvão (1), the most famous speleological structure in the autonomous region. Open to the public since 1968, walking down the extensive volcanic cavity (about 90m), characteristic habitat of a particular fauna and flora, with marked endemic species, is an exclusive experience of the Azores. The descent is robust and not adapted for people with physical limitations, but the volcano, this one, is dormant. At the end of the descent, rest by the lagoon that exalts the whole group and… relax in silence. Algar do Carvão is part of a geo-speleological route which also includes two other natural structures: the Gruta do Natal and the Furnas do Enxofre.

TO LOSE ONESELF, ORIENTED, WITH FEET AND HEAD, INSIDE THE ISLAND

The largest patch of native forest in the archipelago, following the pedestrian trail (classified by the Regional Government) of Rocha do Chambre (2). Enjoy to fill your lungs and enjoy the infinite variety of greens walking along the routes that once served as a route for business transactions among the island's inhabitants. This particular trail was officially assigned with the medium level, however, there are 5 more official rails (Official Tourism Site of the Azores) of different degrees of difficulty.

TRAVELING IN TIME UNDERWATER

Diving in the 2nd place of the world with the largest number of shipwrecks from the Discoveries era - in the Archaeological Underwater Park of Angra do Heroísmo (3). This natural museum has several attractions. The "Cemetery of the Anchors" (more than 40 centenary anchors) and the steamship "Lidador", shipwrecked on their way to Brazil, the two of them are a nursery of small marine species. If you are a snorkeling lover, you should know that 10 minutes from the port of Angra, next to Ilhéu das Cabras, you will find the ideal spot for diving and underwater photography.

HAVE A PICNIC WITH AZOREAN FLAVORS SURROUNDED BY EXOTIC ANIMALS (HAVE YOU SEEN IT?!)

At the Monte Brasil Forest and Recreation Reserve (4), don't be scared if some animal tries to steal food from you… Deer are usually on the loose! But there are also peacocks and parrots… deserted to get to know them. In addition to the botanical wealth, the reserve also has a majestic playground and various leisure facilities. Don't be surprised by the amount of people (and outdoor activities) you can find there. At the highest point of the mountain, Pico das Cruzinhas, it has the best panoramic view over Angra.

LET YOURSELF FLOAT IN NATURAL SWIMMING POOLS - CRACKERS

If you have a pair of diving goggles with you, and you are at the Natural Pools of Biscoitos (5) be sure to peek where you put your feet (or fins!). For a snack, visit the local producers' stalls at the entrance to the pools. Boiled corn clog and homemade cake are two of the star products. The menu brings together delights for all types of consumers: vegetarians and… Food freaks.
